UK road freight to Europe to fall by 19% in 2023 compared to pre-pandemic levels
New figures show a significant drop in the number of road freight vehicles traveling from the UK to Europe in 2023. According to National Statistics, the total number of trips decreased by 9% compared to the previous year, and compared to the average before the pandemic (2015-2019), the drop is even steeper – 19%
The decrease is due, first of all, to a decrease in the number of trucks, which make up the majority of freight transportation.
The report cited several potential factors contributing to the decline, including disruptions at P&O Ferries, ongoing global supply chain challenges and high inflation in recent years.
