The truck driver misused his fuel card. He faces prison terms
A Hungarian truck driver who used his employer-provided fuel card 38 times to buy diesel and sell it for his own profit will stand trial and face jail time.
The truck driver is accused of embezzling diesel fuel worth more than HUF 5 million (€13,550), the Hungarian News Agency reports.
According to the prosecutor’s office, the man, who is about 40 years old and engaged in the international transportation of goods within the European Union, misused his employer’s fuel card 38 times between September 2020 and November 2021 at a gas station near the city of Nadyatad, Hungary.
The accused put 12,000 liters of fuel into drums and jerrycans instead of the truck’s tank and then sold it to acquaintances at a price below retail.
The police arrested the man when he was about to sell 415 liters of fuel to an acquaintance, and reimbursed him 220,000 forints (about 600 euros).
The prosecution suggested that the court sentence the defendant to prison for embezzlement of a significant amount of money, committed on a commercial scale and on an ongoing basis.
